Tips On Finding The Best Shampoos for Natural Hair | 4C Black African Hair
Choosing the best 4c hair products for natural hair requires lots of research. Even choosing the best shampoo for natural hair can be tricky, because you not only have to assess the condition of your hair, but you may need to research on what ingredients will best remedy your hairs condition.

As most of us would agree, a shampoo is used to rid the scalp of sebum, sweat, dead skin cells, styling products, and soiling. Developing a shampoo that only cleanses is not that difficult, but if the shampoo is created only to cleanse hair and nothing else, our hair may look like a scarecrow after washing. Even if the hair is clean, it may be also dull, brittle and can be difficult to style. Our hair should not only be beautiful but also voluminous, shiny and vital.

There is now a shampoo for every hair type and every hair request. But what does a shampoo contain and what should you look for when buying one? I will approach this topic by giving you some non-biased tips on how to choose the best shampoo for natural hair growth and care – what ingredients to look out for, what aspects of your hair to keep in mind when purchasing hair products such as – Is your hair dry? Is it brittle? Is it low porosity or high porosity? Does your scalp itch?

1) Consider The Current State of Your Hair When Choosing The Best Shampoo for Natural Hair

When choosing shampoos and other hair products to promote growth in black hair, my advice is to stick to a trial and error approach as what works for one person won’t work for another.

Our hair is actually dead tissue! This is not only true for you, but for everyone … The living cells of your scalp produce dead tissue (proteins and especially keratin) and if you have damaged your hair, you can not repair them, Sad but true! The hair is covered with a thin film of grease. This greasy film ensures that the hair shines beautifully and protects it from damage.

If you blow your hair too often on high heat, dye it, use aggressive hair products, or make permanent waves too often, you damage this protective greasy film and get dull, dry, straw-coloured hair with split ends. If you want to keep your hair beautiful, then it is essential that this film remains undamaged or repaired artificially after damage. And therein lies the power of a good shampoo. The perfect shampoo frees the scalp and hair from sebum and dirt, does not irritate the scalp and ensures that the protective layer around the hair is maintained or even reinforced.

As mentioned in another post called ”best natural hair growth products for black hair”, regardless of whether we have the same hair types, our hair can react differently to different products. If your hair is strong or thick, you may experience a different reaction to hair products than a person who has thinner hair.

So keeping the above information in mind, here are some general things to look out for when choosing your hair products for natural hair.

2) Ingredients: The Best Shampoo for Natural Hair Growth Must Have The Right Ingredients

When searching for the best shampoo natural hair, opt for those that contain the best oil mixture for hair growth and thickness.

Avocado oil: Due to its high content of healthy fatty acids and vitamins, avocado oil has recently gained in popularity as a hair care product and stimulant of hair growth. In fact, avocado oil is also included in commercially available hair care products to promote hair health.
Avocado contains vitamins A, B6 and E, which provide the hair with care, repair and keep it healthy . The fruit also contains many antioxidants that help improve the hair follicles’ blood supply , which has a positive effect on hair growth.

Olive oil for hair: The hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is responsible for shrinking the hair follicles and causing balding. Olive oil contains antioxidants that limit the activity of this hormone while absorbing free radicals.
Olive oil is also able to stimulate blood circulation and provide the hair with nutrients that are important for healthy hair growth.

Jojoba Oil: Unlike other essential oils jojoba oil does not penetrate the hair. Instead, it seals the hair follicle, allowing it to retain its moisture. Dry hair is thus prevented. From the sealed hair follicle also less sebum gets on the hair.

Coconut oil: Coconut oil is mainly composed of medium-length fatty acids that can cross the cell membrane of cells in the hair root and also penetrate the hair itself to supply it.
It is an oil that is particularly well suited to prevent protein loss and to counteract fatty acid deficiency. These result from the daily use of shampoo and exposure to various environmental factors.

Almond oil: Almond oil removes those accumulations of dead skin cells and is very similar to olive oil for its properties that help protect and moisturize hair. It helps to relieve inflammation of the scalp and as a result, allows the hair to grow free and without breaking.

Rosemary oil: An excellent oil to stimulate hair growth is definitely the rosemary oil. It dilates the blood vessels and improves the blood circulation, it stimulates the cell division and thus creates new hair.

It is also believed that rosemary oil is effective against hair loss and can prevent premature aging of the hair. It also works effectively against dandruff and makes brittle hair smoother.

Remember that hair is also part of the body, so it is important that you take a healthy diet, that also contributes to good hair health.

Other Best Oils for Natural Hair Growth

The above-mentioned oils are the best to be added to your natural hair growth products, and are great for hair in that they can grow your hair faster and healthier, whilst preventing breakage. But there are many oils that work well on natural African hair. These oils include both essential oils and base oils

3) Sulphate & Silicone Free: The Best Shampoo for Natural Hair Must Be Free From Harsh Ingredients

Some shampoo products incorporate ingredients such as sulphates and silicones among others. When choosing a shampoo for natural hair growth, look out for the following ingredients:

Silicone Free Shampoo For Natural Hair
Silicones in shampoos damage the hair. They are the secret weapon of shampoo manufacturers when it comes to fighting unruly or strained hair. They are part of most smoothing products and often hide in the ingredients under the scientific name Dimethicone. We show you which care products you can safely buy without unnecessarily burdening your hair with silicones. Your hair will thank you.

Silicone lays as a top layer over each hair and thus takes on the function of a raincoat, which prevents moisture and important care substances from penetrating from the outside into the hair.
After the first applications, the hair seems healthier. It is untangled, it gets a beautiful shine, and it feels silky and supple. All this causes the silicone polish.

This silicone coating is also the reason why silicones pose a problem for the hair: what initially had a positive effect becomes detrimental as the duration of the application progresses, which in many cases can only be reversed by lengthy treatment.

Too much silicone prevents important oils and moisture from penetrating the hair. But these are needed to keep the hair healthy. Gradually the hair becomes dry and porous. An additional side effect is that the hair is weighted by the silicone layer. It is unnecessary weight. The result is: The already stressed and dry hair hangs limp down.

The solution to the problem is to replace the care products with silicone for hair care without silicone. In each category, there are silicone-free hair care; Shampoo without silicones, rinsing without silicones, up to silicone-free oils.

Once your hair has been coated with silicones, nothing else can penetrate the hair until it is silicone-and the entire silicone layer has been washed out of the hair and all the silicone has been released from the hair strands. Only then can the hair regenerate and be rebuilt with the help of the right bodybuilding supplements.

Opt for a Sulphate Free Shampoo For Natural Hair
In addition to silicones, sulphates, cleansers (or surfactants) are harsh on the hair. The most effective cleaning agents are the lauryl sulfates, of which sodium lauryl sulphate is the most commonly used.

Lauryl sulfates are often used in shampoos because they clean and foam well, but unfortunately they can also irritate the (head) skin and damage the hair. So they are not really a good choice. Somewhat milder, but also very degreasing and not very pleasant for hair and scalp are the sulfosuccinates (Disodium oleamine sulfosuccinate, Sodium dioctyl sulfosuccinate).

These substances, like lauryl sulphates, are often included in shampoo for greasy hair, but should only be used in exceptional cases. Many shampoos use lauryl ether sulfates and sarcosines, which are significantly milder than the ingredients mentioned above, but also degrade less. They are better for shampoos that can be used everyday or for shampoos for dry hair.

In baby shampoos, cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium lauraminopropionate are often used. These substances are mild and do not irritate the eyes. This makes them not only a good choice for baby shampoos, but also for dyed or fine hair.

Other ingredients to Watch Out For:
Ammonium persulfate : accelerator of the products for discolorations.
Potassium persulfate : antioxidant and, sometimes, also accelerator of discolorations.
Ammonia : component of oxidation coloring products.
p-phenylenediamine, p-toluenediamine, 4-aminophenol : hair dyes.
Parabens
Sodium Laureth Sulphate
Resorcinol : color modifier, component of hair dyes.
Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol : hair dye solvent.
Ammonium thioglycolate, glycerolmonothioglycolate : reducers for undulation changes.
Formaldehyde : is released in the application of products for straightening (treatment of keratin, Brazilian straightening) and is also used as a preservative of shampoos and other products.

4) Moisture – The Best Shampoo for Natural Hair Must Be Moisturising

2-in-1 shampoos were yesterday. The best shampoos can be applied to your hair, gently massaged on the scalp, then emulsified and rinsed. If you want to treat your mane to a cure, you do not need harsh shampoos that dry your hair out.

If the sebaceous glands on the head produce too little fat, the scalp and hair become dry and brittle. The main cause of this phenomenon are environmental influences, predisposition also plays a major role.
The hair does not shine, dull and as brittle as straw – that’s what the “symptoms” of dry hair look like.

The reason for the drought on the scalp is simple: the corresponding sebaceous glands produce too little fat to keep the hair moisturized. Triggers are usually environmental influences – for example, heat, dry air at work and sunlight.

In order to tackle the problem at the root, especially a sensitive handling of shampoos and other care products is needed.
  • Use moisturizing shampoos and moisturizers
  • Do regular hair treatments and hair conditioners. For example, protein hydrolysates, lecithin, lanolin, collagen and keratin hydrolysates may be favorable. Get advice from pharmacy staff or beauticians.
  • Proper nutrition: The trace element zinc is generally good for skin, hair and nails. It is contained in whole grains, nuts, oysters and calf’s liver.

5) Cleansing: The Best Shampoo for Natural Hair Growth Must Be Effective Against Excess Sebum Without Drying The Scalp

For some greasy scalp sufferers, it will take two to three days for the hair to appear greasy, some less than a day. To understand why the hair and scalp greasy, you have to look under the skin on the hair root. There are the sebaceous glands. The sebum in the scalp is basically good and important because it makes hair supple and shiny. However, if the scalp produces too much sebum, it causes greasy hair. You do not need harsh chemical ingredients in shampoos to effectively get rid of sebum. Natural ingredients such as Tea Tree Oil can dissolve sebum without drying out the hair too much. Also suitable for oily scalp are shampoos with herbs that can compensate for increased fat production of the sebaceous glands and also soothe the scalp. These include z. Rosemary, chamomile, stinging nettle and sage, as well as the lesser-known herbs horsetail and horse chestnut.

6) Hair Type: The Best Shampoo for Natural Hair Growth Must Be Curl Friendly

As mentioned in my other articles, it is important to understand the structure of 4c African hair, in order to find out what are the best natural hair growth products for black hair and the best leave in conditioner.

Curls are naturally dry hair. Therefore you need intensive moisturizer care. Hair care with hair oil provides a great source of moisture and nutrients. Natural hair oil recipes for black hair must include the right oils and should be able to provide maximum penetration and moisture to the shafts of your naturally curly hair.

Black hair growth products should cater for 4C hair stypes not just looser curls. 4C Afro hair requires very high levels of Oleic or Ricinoleic acid blended with essential oils and herbs such as Castor oil, Moringa oil, Tea Tree oil & Rosemary oil.talk about different hair types and how different oils and ingredients react.

7) Chemically Treated & Transitioning Hair: The Best Shampoo for Natural Hair Growth Must Be Friendly On Chemically Treated & Transitioning Hair

Breakage is common in hair that is transitioning. This is caused by the difference in hair textures at the line of demarcation (where previously processed hair meets the new growth). This is the time when you need to feed your hair with extra nutrition and moisture, for added strength.

It is important you opt for non-drying shampoos in order to avoid further breakage. Also be careful that your shampoo is not aggravating the damage. Some hair products may have a drying effect; replace these with nutrient-rich, moisturizing variations and those directed specifically at repairing and protecting dyed or chemically straightened locks.

8) Vitamins – Best Shampoo for Natural Hair Growth Must Contain The Right Vitamins

No doubt the best way to get your daily vitamins is through the food you eat, but there are vitamins that can be used for rapid natural hair growth such a B Complex, but it won’t make your hair grow overnight. They can also be added in your natural hair growth products.

Vitamin B Complex: B vitamin complex is a vitamin group that can be used to helps the hair grow faster and healthier and also help to reduce hair loss. These vitamins are normally found in legumes, meat and eggs and include B1 (thiamine), B2 vitamin (riboflavin), B3 vitamin (niacin), B5 vitamin (pantothenic acid), B6 vitamin (pyridoxine), Paraminobenzoic acid, Inositol, B12 vitamin (folic acid).

B12: It is one of the essential vitamins to have healthy, beautiful and strong hair. Therefore, the lack of vitamin B12 can result not only in hair loss, but in the appearance of premature graying. Keep in mind that consuming vitamin C and iron helps the body to better absorb vitamin B12. It is found in fish, liver, seafood, eggs and beef.

Biotin (B-7 Vitamin): Biotin is known as the “hair vitamin” because it promotes hair growth. It also strengthens it and, thus, prevents our hair from becoming brittle. In fact, when we do not consume it, we are more vulnerable to losing hair, eyebrows and even eyelashes. Now, what foods are rich in biotin? Mainly, nuts like peanuts, almonds and hazelnuts.

Niacin (B-3 Vitamin): This vitamin improves circulation in the scalp and, consequently, stimulates hair growth. According to studies, niacin or vitamin B3 works best when combined with biotin. Niacin is present in almonds, seeds, beans, green leafy vegetables and carrots, among many other foods.

9) Gentle Foam Or Foam Free

Conventional shampoos contain detergent ingredients that are labeled with SLS (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) on the package. They ensure that the product foams neatly when washing hair, the strong cleansing effect dries the hair but also strong, so care after that is a must.

Good shampoos are now sulfate-free and do not foam when washed or foam very lightly. Nourishing conditioner after that is no longer necessary with these products. However, one must first get used to the fact that the hair feels a little rough, even if they are healthier.
